Three-time NFL Champ Ordell Braase was a proud member of the Baltimore Colts for his entire 1957-1968 NFL career. In just his second pro football campaign, defensive end Braase took part in "The Greatest Game Ever Played". In their sixth season as an NFL franchise, the 1958 Colts racked up a 9-3 record to earn a spot in the NFL Championship Game against the talent rich New York Giants. The setting for the 12/28/58 NFL title match was Yankee Stadium, packed with 64,000+ fans. This hard fought contest was decided by a 1-yard Alan Ameche run in overtime that gave the Colts a thrilling 23-17 victory. A recent national poll confirmed this memorable match-up as the best game of the NFL's first one hundred years.

The magnificence and importance of this game saw the NFL's popularity increase exponentially, at a time when the college game was still preeminent. Though blacked out in the New York City area, this game garnered a TV audience of 45 million for NBC, setting the stage for the explosive rise of the NFL over the next two decades. While the Colts repeated as Champs in 1959 and Braase won his third ring in 1968, it is the 1958 NFL Championship that is the focus of this offering.

Presented is Braase's personal 1958 Baltimore Colts "World Champions" jacket. As part of the reward for their glorious triumph, each member of the '58 Colts squad was awarded one of these iconic blue and white jackets in 1959. There's no doubt that Braase wore his jacket proudly, as this vintage treasure shows ample signs of authentic use/wear, while remaining highly attractive. The best feature of this historic garment is the embroidered patch on the left breast, with the classic Colts logo set in a football shaped patch proclaiming the legend "World Champions 1958". Fitted with still functioning snap buttons, this jacket is solid and intact, with a nice shape. An original tag inside the left front pocket is printed with the name "Ordell Braase" and the size "48", providing positive identification. Located on the left interior side next to the buttons, is a blue patch embroidered in cursive script with Braase's name that was likely added at a later date; and on the right interior side are the original factory labels with "Bacharach-Raisin Co. Athletic Equipment"; "The Jacket for Champions Tailored by Butwin"; and a size "48" tag. Should you require more convincing of the genuine nature of this prime piece of football history, please visit Mr. Braase in the after-life, as he passed away just about a year ago at the ripe old age of 87.
